Kwaito superstar, Mampintsha spent much of 2019 trying to clear his name, either in public or courts. With all the shenanigans that seem to never end following the West Ink label owner, Mampitsha has resurfaced with a single ‘Joburg’, produced by TNS.
On the song, the start talks about the City of Gold, a place he once called home when he was still a member of the kwaito outfit, Big Nuz. Actually, this is the very same place that Mampitsha and his then band mates spent time honing their skills, which eventually led them to release their very first album, Zozo.
Coming to the song, ‘Joburg’ just like its master, it also attracted controversy when it was released late last year. It was reported that the beat was that of Prince Kaybee’s ‘Church’ which features Thabiso Lavish on vocals. Even though it’s undeniable that these two songs are identical, the producer at the center of it all, TNS came out with guns blazing and said anyone with proof that he stole the beat “must come forward.” Of course this was not going to end well because we all know that TNS used to work with Prince Kaybee and produced some of the hits during their hey days.
Nevertheless, ‘Joburg’ is a club jam and there’s certainly a good vibe between the lyrical content and beat. Take a listen!
